Xu Chenyang is professional artist at the Chinese National Academy of Arts. He was born in Jiangsu Province, East China, and graduated in 1992 from Nanjing University of the Arts. In 1994, he obtained the Japanese Government Scholarship and continued his study in Japan where he attained both Master of Art and Master of Education. He then got his doctorate, majored in oil painting, at the Chinese National Academy of Arts in 2009. The young man in the paintings is a modern dance performer who has been the artist’s model since 2009. Through many portraits of the dancer, the artist seeks for the ideal way of depicting male figures.
